An Ode to Spring

Last night a tempestuous wind blew

I looked up and saw
Spring struggling with Winter

Look, said Spring
I must burst forth
once again

But what will become of me?
deplored Winter

forgetting that his season too
will recur

They held each other tightly

trees stood still
steadying their swinging branches
hushing their rustling leaves

All were in awe

of the moment when neither being nor non-being
life nor death
held sway

As Spring let go
Winter bellowed
a tremendous roar
the pain
of a thousand partings

the force of separation
yielding a light so intense
that it pierced our skins
baring our feelings
of hope, sadness, love, betrayal
exposing our souls

leaving us speechless

and soaked
in tears of rain
that poured all night
as Spring turned away from Winter

This morning
magnificent dawn
dries teardrops of dew
on blue green grass

Spring dances

a meditative dance
from hidden memories
a vibrant dance
of life to live
